Today we celebrate the feast of Saint Philomena. The feast of Saint Philomena is very well celebrated at the Most Holy Redeemer Parish at Masambong, Quezon City.
The feast of Saint Philomena is celebrated with novena masses from August 2-11 and a solemn procession on August 11.
The image used in the procession is the Visiting Statue of Saint Philomena. The said statue visits schools, hospitals, communities, and other institutions where there is public devotion to Her.
The arrows, anchor, palm, and whip are attributes of St. Philomena. This was when she refused to be the emperor's wife. She was subjected to a series of torments:
(1) Scourging, where two angels cured her
(2) Drowning with an anchor attached to her, two angels cut the rope and raised her to the river bank
(3) Being shot with arrows, where on the first occasion her wounds were healed, on the second the arrows turned aside, and on the third, they returned and killed six of the archers (after which, several of the others became Christians)
(4) Finally the Emperor had her decapitated
