Sad to see photos of dilapidated churches, but even more sadder to watch these things happen on videos...
Last October 15, at 9:36 AM, I received a text message from a Cebuano friend, Nonotch Redula. The message was,“Pray for the Basilica.”
Since it was a holiday, I woke up a little late. Though I was able to read the text earlier, I didn’t pay much attention and went back to bed. Woke up around 11AM and checked my Facebook. The 1st post I read was the magnitude 7.2 earthquake that mainly struck Cebu and Bohol and a photo of the dilapidated Loboc Church.
Meanwhile, several more photos of destroyed structures, mostly churches, started to flood my news feed. It broke my heart to see these wonderful churches destroyed in the blink of an eye and even sadder to see lives lost.
Later that day, a friend and I decided to grab late lunch at a mall in Makati. On our way to the food court, I was feeling really down. I was telling him how devastated I was about the recent earthquake. I was paying at the counter when I told him, “Grabe no, wala ng natira…ano na lang ang mangyayari?” The cashier gave me P70 change (P20 and P50 bills).
I was just holding my change until we were able to chance on a vacant table. We sat down and I immediately organized my bills. What I saw gave me goose bumps – a commemorative bill of San Pedro Calungsod. Coincidence? Be the judge…
God bless our brothers and sisters who were affected by the earthquake. Let us keep our faith strong!
