Fortunate enough, during my visit at the San Sebastian Church, the Santo Niño El Governador General was currently there for the January Feast in honor of the Holy Child. This is a 17th century image that is kept inside the Museo Recoletos in Tandang Sora, Quezon City. The said image joined the PNB Grand Santo Niño Procession this year and is a rare happening.

While touring around the San Sebastian Church, Fr. Rommel Rubia brought me to the Virgen's camarin. A camarin is a room where religious images are dressed or prepared for fiestas or any religious celebrations. Fr. Rommel showed me some of the Virgen's precious jewels including the solid gold vestment made of Mexican gold and encrusted with natural rough diamonds. Really wonderful experience! Reyna de Quiapo's Jewels Photo GalleryToday, I visited the Queen of Quiapo, Nuestra Señora del Carmen, Coronada of San Sebastian Church. My warmest thanks for Fr. Rommel Rubia for touring me around the magnificent church and allowing me to meet the queen up-close. For the knowledge of others, this image of Virgen del Carmer was once a victim of theft. July 09, 1975 was a sad day for the church and devotees of the Virgen. The ivory head and hands of the virgen and the ivory Santo Niño were stolen. Fortunately the Santo Niño and hands were recovered, but the head is still currently missing. The virgen was canonically crowned in the year 1991. Del Carmen Photo Gallery |
