Even the highly developed Makati City has a centuries-old tradition to share. Who would have thought that even before Makati City became developed, there used to be the Old Macati in Barangay Poblacion.
For two consecutive mornings, June 29 & 30, the Panatang Sayaw or Bailes delos Arkos (Dance of the Arches) is performed. This is a dance offering for Sts. Peter & Paul and Virgen dela Rosa. The dance is usually performed at the plaza in front of the Old Macati Church, the Sts. Peter & Paul Parish.
The Panatang Sayaw is danced by 9 young girls in blue and pink dresses. You can easily identify the dance leader, she is the only one wearing a pink dress. The girls dance while singing some sort of a salvo or novena. Note that, only "untouched" girls are qualified to dance.
For generations, this tradition is under the care of the Atilon Family. The fragile lady n the photo is the Guardian, Linda Atilon Reyes.
